WE'RE GOING TO THE ZOOOOO ZOOO ZOO

10:33 PM

While we were in Houston, we went to the zoo with my brother Joseph and his family. I'm not usually one to get excited about Zoos, but having Lydia with us (even though she is obviously much too young to remember anything) as well as my brother's girls, made this zoo trip extra fun. (Stephen, on the other-hand, LOVES zoos, aquariums, and all things involving animals! it doesn't matter if human children are present or not, haha.)

The highlight of the day was watching Stephen assist Lydia as she fed a giraffe a piece of lettuce. The pictures don't do it justice - I was DYING. At first she was really serious, then she got a REALLY pouty face (Lydia's pouty-faces are pretty notorious around here!) and then she started laughing. It was the full spectrum of emotion in 15 seconds! This girl never ceases to entertain! Lydia's dramatic change of emotions made it seem like a bit of a toss-up, but Stephen is thrilled that in the end she has chosen to stand with him on the side of being one who likes animals.

^^Lydia's little "thumbs-up" in this picture cracks me up! Also, THAT HAT! hahaha

^^Another highlight of the trip to Houston was watching Joseph's girls with Lydia. His youngest, Lilly, was particularly taken with Lydia and always wanted to hold her hand and tickle her cheeks. haha. I'm not sure why she thought Lydia's cheeks would be ticklish (and spoiler: they weren't) but she was determined to try! At one point Lilly discovered that if she would jump in front of Lydia, Lydia would laugh really hard. As you might imagine, there was a lot of jumping from that point on ;)

HOORAY for the zoo! We were a little worried about the Houston humidity, but thankfully it wasn't nearly as bad as we were expecting. It was hot, but not unbearable, and Lydia was GREAT the whole time we were there! She was exhausted by the end of the day, which worked out perfectly because she was able to sleep a good chunk of the drive back to Dallas from Houston.

Thanks Joseph & Wendy for hosting us and taking us to the zoo! (While we were in Houston we also got to visit with our good friends Bailee and Brady. Unfortunately I didn't get a picture with them, but it was great to see them too!)

10 points for anyone who got the Raffi reference in the title! A year or two ago Stephen and I discovered that we both grew up on the same Raffi cassette tapes. "We're Going to the Zoo," "Brush Your Teeth" and "Willoughby Wallaby Woo" are some Olson Family Favorites.

You really ought to take a listen! That Raffi is just too good! ;)
